Obituary for Dorene E. Myhre

Dorene E. Myhre, 84, of Caledonia, Minn., passed away, Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. She was born Aug. 22, 1932, in Preston, Minn., to Willet and Edith (Schaefer) Stoskopf. Dorene graduated from Preston High School in 1950. She then attended St. Olaf College-Northfield, Minn.,- and graduated with a teaching degree in business. On Aug 18, 1956, Dorene married Ronald Myhre in Preston, Minn. She taught business courses at Caledonia High School and Loretto High School and was the first protestant teacher hired at Loretto High School. Dorene was a great cook and baker who always had plenty of good food for family or the farm help. She paid much attention to detail and was the bookkeeper for the farm. Dorene was a devout Christian as a member of Wilmington Lutheran Church where was dedicated to the church music ministry where she was an organist for 44 years and a director of the choir. Survivors include her husband, Ronald of Caledonia; two children, Randy (Debra) Myhre of Apple Valley, Minn., and Sharon (Dan) Loomis of Colgate, Wis.; one daughter-in-law, Jean (Mike) Meiners of Caledonia; six grandchildren, Ashley (Nick) Farley, Mitchell Myhre, Abby Myhre, Erica Myhre, Erin Meiners , and Misty Loomis; three great-grandchildren, Maddison Rosol, Jaxon Farley, and Gibson Rask. Dorene was preceded in death by her parents; a son in infancy and a son, Eric Myhre; and one brother, Dean Stoskopf. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, May 15, 2017, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Caledonia. Rev. Steven E. Meyer and Rev Neil Solomonson will officiate. Following a time of fellowship, graveside services will be held at 2:15 p.m. at Wilmington Lutheran Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Caledonia. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Wilmington Lutheran Church. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Caledonia Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be sent at
