Obituary for Margaret Rondorf

Margaret Rondorf, 86, long-time resident of West Salem, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health System – Franciscan Healthcare in La Crosse following a short illness. Margaret was born in Bangor, Wis., on May 20, 1930, to Peter and Florence (Corcoran) Collingon. She married Norman Rondorf on June 22, 1950. Margaret worked as a stenographer at the Star Knitting Company when she was younger and also worked outside of the home for a few years at National Cash Register in West Salem. She loved to vacation on Mackinac Island, Mich., and Door County, Wis., with her husband. Her favorite pastimes included reading, listening to music, completing crossword puzzles, needlepoint, and singing along with the music from her favorite artists, Johnny Mathis and Barbra Streisand. Margaret’s love for animals was lifelong from her first pet kitten, Skitter, to other family pets, Spotty, Cleo, Muffin, Nina, and Lilly. She is survived by one son, Steven (Donna) of Waterloo, Iowa; one daughter, Patricia (James) Hurley of La Crosse; four grandchildren, Michael Votca of Belle Plaine, Minn., Carolyn (Charles) Robeck of Byron, Minn., Rebecca (Scott) Manthei of Minneapolis, Minn., and Christopher Hurley of La Crosse; two great-grandchildren, Jessa and Jameson of Byron, Minn.; two sisters, Sister Rose Rita Collingon (Teeda) FSPA of Villa St. Joseph, La Crosse, and Eileen Gerke of rural Bangor; one brother, Joseph (Beverly) Collingon of Cashton; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Norman; one son, Michael Norman; her parents; a sister, Mary (Clyde) Bernett; two brothers-in-law, Joseph Gerke and Clyde Bernett; a niece, Nancy Bowen; and a nephew, Daniel Bernett. A memorial visitation will be held beginning at 1 p.m. and concluding with a rosary at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, (Jostad Chapel), 121 N. Youlon St., West Salem. A private family burial will be held at a later date in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. The family has requested that memorials may be given in Margaret’s memory to the Coulee Region Humane Society.
