Obituary for Janice Leona (Diersen) Staggemeyer

Janice Leona (Diersen) Staggemeyer , 70, of Eitzen Minn., passed away on November 2, 2017, in her home surrounded by family after a graceful and courageous fight against cancer. She was born June 14, 1947, and raised on a farm on Jefferson Ridge near Caledonia, Minn. In 1964, she married the love of her life, Howard Staggemeyer. They farmed, along side eachother, on Howard's family farm for 53 years. Janice had served as Winnebago Township Treasurer for 28 years and recently retired from this position this past spring. She also worked at Capacitor Associates for 17 years. Janice was baptized, confirmed, and married in the Zion Ev. Lutheran Church of Eitzen. Janice's greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-granddaughter. The family farm was always the central gathering place for family/friends, food and fun. Janice treasured the friendships she made with the "bowling bunch", bowling on women's and couple's leagues for many years. "The bowling bunch" enjoyed more than just bowling, they took trips together, going to steak fries, played cards, and looked forward to the annual "Christmas Tree Run". In addition to all the farm-work that included milking cows and fieldwork, Janice took great pride in baking,canning/freezing, and tending to her manicured lawn with so many beautiful flowers. In later years, Janice spent many hours quilting, embroidery, and giving these beautiful items to her family. Janice is survived by her husband, Howard; son, Randy (Lisa); daughter, Sue Dunn (Troy); grandchildren, Travis (Natalie), Troy (Madisen) and Spencer Dunn; great-granddaughter, Makenzie Dunn; step-grandchildren, Chris (Amy), Jared (Melissa), and Joseph Dunn and Amber (Pat) Barber; sisters, Vera (late, Lloyd) Johnson and Doreen (Merle) Cunningham; brother, Bernell Diersen; sisters-in-law, Grace (late, Norbert) Staggemeyer, and Evelyn (late, Milton) Staggemeyer; many nieces and nephews, especially Duke, Fern, and Noah, who have spent a great deal of time with Janice and Howard on the farm; and life-long best friend, Anita Meyer. Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Fremont and Erna Diersen; and brothers-in-law, Lloyd Johnson, Norbert Staggemeyer, and Milton Staggemeyer. Funeral service will be held 11a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Eitzen, Minn. Pastor Todd Krueger will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., Tuesday, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday, both at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Caledonia Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be sent at jandtfredrickson.com.
