Obituary for Roger E. Anderson

Roger E. Anderson, 90, of West Salem passed away on Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse. He was born on May 7, 1927, to Plimmer and Josephine (Olson) Anderson. On February 23, 1949, Roger married Elizabeth “Betty” Bantle at his mother’s home. He was a World War II vet, having served in Panama and was proud to be on the Freedom Honor Flight in 2011. He was a self-employed carpenter and when he wasn’t working you could find him on the golf course. He found enjoyment when he got to take Gus for walks around the park. Roger was famous for his many hats and for always having a joke to share. Roger is survived by a son, Steve (Kathy) Anderson; daughter, Nancy (Keith) Schmig; granddaughters, Amy Kneesel (Jake Stone), Lisa (Jeremy) Lund, and Dawn (Jeremy) Burns; great-grandchildren, Murelle, Maddie Jo, Lucy, Breah, Hunter Lily and Jase; brother, Howard Anderson; many nieces nephews, other relatives, and his four-legged buddy, Gus. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; brother, Bob; and son-in-law, Paul Severson A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, West Salem. Pastor Jonanthan and Jean Schmidt will officate. A visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the church. A private burial will be held at a later date.
