Obituary for Ida Anna Coplien


Ida Anna Coplien, 96, loving mother and grandmother of La Crosse passed away peacefully with family by her side, and went to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. She was born June 16, 1921 in La Crosse, to Amelia (Horne) and Rudolph Temp, Sr. and was the youngest of 14 children. She married Lawrence Miller in 1939, and they lived in Barre Mills until his accidental death in 1946. Ida, her girls, and her mother-in-law moved to La Crosse at that time. She then began her 51 year Career at JCPenney, beginning in the downtown La Crosse store and retiring from the Valley View Mall store. She married Ivan Coplien in 1964 and they later divorced. After retiring from JCPenney, Ida enjoyed volunteering at St. Francis Medical Center in the ICU waiting room for 20 years. She was also involved in several groups at English Lutheran Church where she was a member for 70 years. Ida enjoyed playing cards, bible study, cooking wonderful meals for holidays, baking, birthday celebrations, music, watching the Packers, game shows on TV, and The Golden Girls. She loved going shopping and loved a great sale! Ida also loved going out to eat and enjoyed a good HOT cup of coffee. She loved her fur babies; Chico, Tina and Angel. They were her pride and joy throughout the years. She loved all animals and always wanted to hold and snuggle them. Ida is survived by her daughter, Lorna (Sherman) Thurman; three granddaughters, Kelley (nee, Snyder) Prise, Courtney (Rob) McCollough, and Brittany (Kevin) Nelson; three great-grandchildren, Lindsay (Brad) Ipavec, Emma and Caden McCollough; and a great-great grandson, Vaughn Ipavec; sister, Lilyan Tanke; her sister in-law, Beverly Miller; son-in-law, Robert L. Snyder; grandson-in-law, Brent Mann; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Lawrence Miller and Ivan Coplien; infant son, Duane Lawrence Miller; daughter, Sharon R. Snyder; granddaughter, Kathleen M. (Snyder) Mann; brothers, William (Jenney and Pearl) , Rudolph, Jr. (Dorthea), Leonard (Maxine), Arthur (Bernadette), Emil (Anna), Edward (Genevieve and Lilah), George (Vera) and Walter Temp; sisters, Edna (Adam) Pinker, Helen (George) Eckart, Dorothy Temp, Mildred (George) Konop; and brother in-law, William Tanke; mother and father in-law, Catharine J. and Fred C. Miller; brother in-laws; Donald (Lois Ann), Ralph (Lucille) ,Cornelius Miller; many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends whom she loved dearly. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at English Lutheran Church (16th St. and King St.). Burial will follow in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Barre Mills. The family would also like to thank Viterbo Nursing Student, Krystal Janski who became a light in Ida's life the last seven months of her life. Ida loved seeing Krystal and enjoyed playing cards with her.
