Obituary for Marvel Jean Greene

Marvel J. (Miller) Greene, 77, of West Salem died Friday, May 11, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. She was born April 11, 1941 in La Crosse to Bernie & Margaret (Hoyer) Miller. She attended West Salem High School. She grew up on a farm with her brother Robert G. Miller. Marvel met the love of her life, Willard (Bud) Greene, at the Harry Martin (Cow Palace) Roller Rink in West Salem. They were united in marriage on October 26, 1957 at Christ Lutheran Church Parsonage. Marvel was a waitress at Maple Grove Country Club for many years. She worked for Skogens IGA at Center 90 in the Deli Department. She later was self employed as a dog groomer. She was an active member at Christ Lutheran Church Ladies Aid Program. Marvel was also active with the West Salem Lions Club serving as District President and Treasurer. She was active with the Lioness program, volunteering with the Genoa Fishing Derby aiding handicap children and gathering glasses for the vision program. She assisted her husband with collecting deer hides for many years. She received the Melvin Jones Fellow award for Dedicated Humanitarian Services. Survivors include 4 children, Tom (Diane) Greene of Monroe, MI, Tina (John) Willinger, of West Salem, Lisa (Pat) Humfeld, of Trempealeau, and Todd (Sue) Greene of West Salem, 9 Grandchildren, 6 Great-Grandchildren, 7 Step-Grandchildren, 11 Step-Great-Grandchildren, her brother Robert (Lois) Miller and Nieces and Nephews. Marvel was preceded in death by her husband, Willard, parents, Bernie and Margaret Miller and a Step Great Grandchild, Landon. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m., Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Christ Ev. Lutheran Church in West Salem. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
