He was born on July 3, 1947 to Donald Lafayette Williams and Ione Dorothy Glade in Cherokee Iowa. Tom graduated from West High School in Rockford, Ill., in 1965, Illinois State University in 1969 and the Police Academy in Champaign, Ill., 1969. From 1969 to 1979 he served on the Rockford Police force; while on the force one of his duties was that of a training officer. Within five years they had six restaurants located in La Crosse, Beloit, and Janesville, Wis. In 1984, they split the businesses but both continued to run Burger Kings. Tom retired in 2006 from the Burger King business with five local restaurants. Not being one to do nothing in retirement, Tom then got a part time job as a crew transport driver for the Railroad from 2009 to 2017. He enjoyed meeting the conductors and hearing their stories about being on the train. Tom had many hobbies including reloading his own ammo, shooting his guns, woodworking and going for drives with his furry companion KD. He was also a lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears and shared this passion with his son Brad. Da Bears! We all treasure a woodwork project that was made just for us. He was always thinking about the next project he would make.
