Obituary for Julianne K. Wopat


Julianne Kay (nee, Helgeson) Wopat, 69, of Holmen, died Saturday, June 16th, 2018, at her home. Julianne Kay Helgeson was born November 12, 1948, to Clarence and Dorothy (Christianson) Helgeson at Gundersen Health Systems in La Crosse. She grew up in Stoddard and graduated from DeSoto High School in 1966. She then went on to Keypunch school in Milwaukee, where she excelled. Later, she returned to Stoddard and started working at Gateway Transportation. She met the love of her life, Bernard "Rudy" Wopat; very shortly after her return to Stoddard. The couple was married on May 29th, 1971, and they began a family together. Their daughter, Jennifer, was born in 1974, followed by their son, Brian, in 1979. Julianne loved being a mom and stayed home with her children as they grew. You couldn’t know Julianne for even a minute without knowing how proud she was of her kids. Once they were both in school, she went back to work at Dairyland Power and then to LaCrosse Produce until retirement. Julianne and Bernard lived in Stoddard for 36 years. After he died, she moved to Holmen, WI. She loved spending time with her grandkids, doing cross stitch and crocheting blankets. She was an avid reader, loved visiting casinos and enjoyed playing cards. She was part of a card club that met once a month that she loved. They called themselves the A&P club (Aches and Pains). She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Sven) of Wentzville, MO, her son, Brian (Christy) Wopat of Holmen, grandchildren, Whitly, Kiley, and Alexy Hunt, and Avery and Evan Wopat; two brothers, Marlin (Julie) Helgeson of La Crosse, and Mark (Teresa) Helgeson of Stoddard; sister-in-law, Margie Helgeson; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Bernard Wopat; her parents, Clarence and Dorothy Helgeson; her brother, Cletus Helgeson; and two grandchildren, Aiden and Sophie Wopat. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Woodruff Chapel, La Crosse. Pastor Stephanie M. Steiner will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Gardens of Peace Mausoleum at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery, La Crosse. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service, Saturday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
