Obituary for Mary Espenes


Mary Espenes, 90, of La Crosse, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Eagle Crest South in La Crosse. Mary Catherine Espenes was born April 13, 1928, in La Crosse, to George and Ruth (Houle) McKoskey. She grew up in La Crosse and graduated from Aquinas High School in 1946. On January 17, 1953 she married Kenneth Espenes, the boy next door. She was employed at Trane company, retiring from the Trane Employees Credit Union and a proud member of the Trane 25 Year Club. Mary loved her family dearly and greatly enjoyed attending any of their sporting events. She & Kenny spent their later years traveling the country in their RV. Many family members and friends were recipients of her beautiful hand crocheted afghans and enjoyed her delicious homemade bread. She is survived by her five children Michael (Diane) Espenes, Katherine (Robert) Bishop, David (Laura Lee) Espenes, Gregory (Julie) Espenes, and Barbara Manders; eight grandchildren, Christina (Greg) Erbe, Kari (Finn) Hawkins, Andrew Espenes, Jonathan (Taryn) Espenes, Nathaniel Espenes, Philip Espenes, Zachary (Courtney) Manders, and Hannah Manders; four step-grandchildren, Tricia Bishop, Aaron (Rachel) Bishop, Christopher (Julie) Manders, and Jennifer (Jaron) Robertus; five great grandchildren, Cole Erbe, Eliana Espenes, Landon Espenes, Aria Manders, and Annabelle Manders; four step-great grandchildren, Alexx Bishop, Amelia Bishop, Mason Manders, and Morgan Manders; her brothers, Richard (Audrey) McKoskey and Jerome (Mary) McKoskey, her sisters, Virginia Kiss, Joanne Schultz, Laurel Anderson, and Annette Burns; her brother-in-law, Olav Espenes; her sister-in-law, Anna (Gerald) Broderick; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was proceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Espenes; her brother, George (Budd) McKoskey; and her son-in-law, Michael Manders. A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m., on Wednesday July 18, 2018, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1333 So. 13th St. La Crosse. Fr. G. Richard Roberts will officiate. A Luncheon will follow. Burial will be at a later date in Catholic Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., Tuesday at the Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home (Woodruff Chapel), 4239 Mormon Coulee Road, La Crosse and from 9 a.m. until the time of mass Wednesday at the church.
