Obituary for Karen Rita Kneifl

Karen Rita Kneifl (Herzog) 76, of Ettrick (formerly of Bangor) passed away peacefully in her home on July 15, 2018, with her family by her side. Karen was the first born to Bernard and Mary (Anderson) Herzog on June 30, 1942, in La Crosse, Wis. Karen graduated in 1960 from Onalaska High School. Karen was a very talented writer and had an amazing way with words, a gift she inherited from her mother. Karen declined the opportunity to attend UW Madison as an aspiring writer to marry the “ Love of Her Life”, Donald John Kneifl on June 2,1962. The following year on Karen’s 21st birthday, they welcomed their first daughter, Connie, followed by daughter, Deb, son, Rob and “baby” daughter, Mary Lynn. Karen dedicated her life as a devoted wife, mother, grammy, and great grammy who gave love and compassion unconditionally to her husband, children, and grandchildren never asking anything for herself. Through the years, Karen shared her gift of writing with her family. From the daily love letters packed in Donnie’s lunch box, to the immeasurable letters and cards she sent to her children, grandchildren, and great - grandchildren never failing to celebrate special days and accomplishments. Her unique way with words will leave a lasting impression on those she touched forever and always. Karen will be remembered as a selfless wife, mother, and friend who always put others first even when her pain was at its worst. She never complained and always made sure her family was never burdened in worry or concern about her declining health. Karen will be sorely missed and survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Donnie; daughter, Connie (Kevin) Peter and their children, Chelsie (Kyle) Moore and Logan Peter, daughter, Deb (Greg) Desmond and their children, Megan, Mason, and Madison, son, Rob (Sherry) Kneifl and their sons, Cody and Colton, and daughter, Mary (Joe) Gothard and their children, Gabriella, Grace and Gavin; their three “Greats”, Taelynn, Larkyn, and Westlyn Moore; Karen’s brothers, Pat (Rita) Herzog and Mike Herzog; sister in law, Liz (Duane) Christianson; Karen’s best friend, Luana “Bubs” Niedfeldt; and many loved nieces, nephews, and special neighbors, Fred and Eljane and Harold and Lois. Karen was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Steve. Karen’s Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Jandt Fredrickson Funeral Home, Hwy 162 and Hattan St., Bangor, with visitation from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. with a Celebration of her memory from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations in Karen’s name be made to the Ettrick First Responders and Ettrick Volunteer Fire Department.
