Obituary for Herbert A. Banse


Herbert Banse, died peacefully, January 19, 2019, at his home at the age of 75. He was born October 18, 1943, to parents, August and Emma (Onken) Banse. Herbert was baptized at home and confirmed at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Eitzen, Minn. He completed schooling through the eighth grade in Eitzen and then part of the ninth grade at Caledonia High School. On June 10, 1967, Herbert married Phyllis (Headington) Banse and they enjoyed 51 and one half years together. He farmed his whole life and enjoyed planting and watching his crops grow. Herbert also liked taking drives in the country and observing all the other farms. Herbert was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Onalaska, where he served as president of the church council. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; children, Deborah (Banse) Dailey of Kasson, Minn., Michael (Kris) Banse of Eitzen, Minn., and Doran Banse of Onalaska, Wis.; nine grandchildren, Tyler Dailey, Megan Dailey (fiancé, Brady Stackhouse), Dylan Dailey (fiancée, Emery Cates), and Luke Dailey, and Jenna, Kailey, Logan, Mason, and Nicole Banse; two great-grandchildren, Emily and Tucker Stackhouse; two sisters, Helen (Donny) Vonderohe of New Albin, Iowa, and Irene Heyer of Onalaska, Wis.; two brothers, Ervin (Carol) Banse of La Crescent, Minn., and Lester (Donna) Banse of Caledonia, Minn.; one brother-in-law, Merle (Bev) Headington of Ridgeway, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Lois Fruechte of Caledonia, Minn., Janice Numedahl of Decorah, Iowa, Lila (John) Cangemi of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Joyce (Daniel) Nelson of Las Vegas, Nev., Brenda Headington of Decorah, Iowa, and Lynn Headington of Decorah, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by a son in infancy; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Guy and Clara (Schuttemeier) Headington; brothers-in-law, Marvin Heyer, Wayne Headington, Lyle Headington, Mark Numedahl, and Burton Fruechte; and one niece, Diana Headington. A visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019, at the Four Seasons Community Center, 900 E. Kingston St., Caledonia. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 112 9th Ave., N., Onalaska. Rev. Robert Dommer will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia. A visitation will also be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the church. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Caledonia Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
