Obituary for Burness A. McBain

Burness A. McBain of West Salem, passed away, Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at home in West Salem surrounded by loved ones. She was born on June 6, 1928, in La Crosse to Gustave F. Smith and Grace R. Smith. Burness graduated from Logan High School and worked at the Electric Auto Lite Company. Burness married Clive B. McBain on April 17, 1948 at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran.(WELS) Church. the coup[le moved to Chicago where they worked in the Post Office. Their son, Bruce, was born in Chicago. They moved back to La Crosse because of Clive’s job and six children were added to the family. Burness worked at Soell’s Drug Store and later was a rural route driver for the La Crosse Post Office, retiring in 2000 with 26 years of service. She joined the American Legion Auxiliary Post 417 and held many offices such as Chaplin, Chicken Q coordinator and president. They also joined the 40 et Cabane where she held many positions including Wisconsin State Cabane President. With the 40 et 8 they enjoyed traveling to Niagara Falls, Virginia Beach, Miami, New Orleans, Omaha, Las Vegas, and San Francisco to name a few. She also enjoyed many camping trips with family and friends. First in tents then a refurbished school bus then a camping trailer. With RE*LAX*IN Campers they had good times with other Wisconsin members. They traveled in a motorhome to many places including Yuma, Arizona and even flew to Anchorage, Alaska to visit family. Burness was baptized, confirmed, married, and celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary ay Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church (WELS). She is currently a member of Christ Lutheran Ev. Church (WELS) in West Salem. Burness and Clive celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on April 17, 2016. They had seven children; Clive B. (Jennifer) McBain Jr., Johnita R. Schlicht (Robert deceased), Gary L. (Sandra) McBain, Thomas A. McBain (deceased), Elizabeth A., Edith M. McBain, and Mark A. McBain; special niece, Eugenia G. Smith of Anchorage, Alaska; eight grandsons;10 granddaughters; eight great-grandson; and four great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clive B. McBain Sr.; sister, Beulah S. Graff; son Thomas A. McBain; two grandsons; Ryan R. Schlicht and Nicholas A. McBain; stepsister Emilia S. Locks, and a step brother, Clifford W. Locks. Memorial services will be at 11 am, Friday, April 5, 2019 at Christ Ev. Lutheran Church (500 Park St, West Salem) Rev Galen Riediger will officiate. Ashes will be interred in French Island Cemetery at a later date. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home and Crematory, Jostad Chapel is assisting the family.
