Obituary for Judith M. Althoff

Judy M. “Cholla” Althoff, 75, of Bangor passed away on July 3rd at Morrow Home of Sparta after a long battle with lung cancer. She was born on July 4th, 1943 in Sparta, WI to Paul and Margaret (Ziegler) Schaller. She was married to Tom “Fish” Althoff in Bangor, WI on January 29th, 1966. After graduating from Bangor High School in 1961 she went on to work at NorWest Bank in La Crosse, WI for several years. Following the birth of her first three children she took a job at the Bangor Feed Mill as clerk and bookkeeper. She eventually became the Bangor Village Clerk until she retired. In her retirement she had greatly enjoyed spoiling her pets, enjoyed cooking (but eating more!), listening to music (but dancing more!), gardening (but supervising more!), coordinating Tuesday Tunes for her friends, organizing any and every excuse for dress up parties. She was an avid lover of music, musicals, and anything theater. She will be greatly missed by her caring husband of 53 years, Tom; 3 sons, Sam of St. Paul, MN, Nick and Desiree of Rockland, WI, Charles of Minneapolis, MN, and her beautiful granddaughter, Mariah of St. Paul, MN. She is survived by her sister Margie Korn; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Schaller of Sparta and Florence Schaller of Bangor, brother-in-law, Art Sommerfield of Bangor; and countless nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two children, Tony Althoff and Stacey Althoff, her parents, two sisters; Eunice (Bill) Gerke and Mavis Sommerfield; five brothers, Lyle, LaVerne (Rosie), Eugene (Judy), Armand “Ham”, Eldred “Al” Schaller; brothers-in-law, Bill (Eunice) Gerke and Harvey Korn; sisters-in-law, Rosie (LaVerne) Schaller and Judy (Eugene) Schaller. Visitation will be at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home in Bangor, WI on Thursday, July 11th from 3pm-6pm, with a prayer service at 5pm. The funeral mass will follow Friday, July 12th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bangor, WI at 11 am with visitation starting at 10am. Online condolences may be sent at Stems of West Salem, WI will be handling floral arrangements.
