Obituary for Mary G. Flower

Mary G. Flower, 76, of Punta Gorda, Fla., and La Crosse, Wis., died Thursday, August 11, 2011, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, after spending her last days surrounded by her loving family.
She was born October 21, 1934, in Freeport, Ill., to Michael J. and Mary Gen (Hornbeck) Billeter. In her early years, Mary lived with her family in Freeport, Oregon, Rockford, Streater and Princeton, Ill., before the family settled in Dixon, Ill. Mary was a 1952 graduate of Dixon High School.  She then attended the KSB School of Nursing in Dixon. On February 11, 1956, she married Ray Flower at St. Anne's Church in Dixon, Ill. Mary was employed as a nurse at Mc Nichols Clinic in Dixon, Ill., for eight years. Because of Ray's employement with G. Heileman Brewing Company, Mary and Ray moved to Bowling Green, Ohio, and then Fort Thomas, Ky., before moving to La Crosse in 1975. After retirement, in 2000, Mary and Ray moved to Punta Gorda, Fla., to spend the winter months, where they loved to play golf and made many special friends. Mary and Ray enjoyed boating on the Rock River, Lake Erie, the Mississippi River, and Florida waters and used these times as a way of spending time with their entire family. During their time living in Fort Thomas, Mary was proud to be recognized as an Honorary Kentucky Colonel. During Ray's years with G. Heileman Brewing Company, Mary enjoyed accompanying Ray and other Heileman executives on various trips throughout the United States entertaining and hosting clients. Mary had served as a member of the Jay-C-ettes and played on many golf leagues. In addition to boating and golfing, Mary enjoyed doing needlework and spending time with her grandchildren. She always felt her greatest accomplishment in life was having three loving children.
Survivors include her husband, Ray of Punta Gorda, Fla./La Crosse;  three children, Whitney (Bill) Cox and Russ (Donna) Flower, both of La Crosse, and Maggie (Scott) Jungmann of Ellsworth, Wis.; six grandchildren, Jonathan and Jenna Cox and Casey and Lindsey Flower, all of La Crosse, and RaeAnn and Brett Jungmann of Ellsworth; one brother, Jack (Mary Jane) Billeter of Byron, Ill.; and two nephews, Jeff (Christie) Billeter of Byron, Ill., and Tom (Paula) Billeter of Sioux Falls, S.D.
