Obituary for Carol C. Wenzel


Carol Christine (Maack) Wenzel,66, of La Crosse passed away Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. Carol was born January 1, 1953 in La Crosse to Clarence Jr. and Mildred Maack, the 6th of 10 children.Carol graduated from Logan High School in 1971. In April 1972, she married James Wenzel. Together they had two daughters. Carol and Jim later divorced. Carol waitressed at the Onalaska Country Kitchen and LeQue Club. She also worked at Photo Art Techniques in Metal. She bartended at the Neptune Lounge and the Krazy L. Finally, she worked at Menard’s until retiring in 1998. Carol is survived by her daughters, Tina (Jim) Kropelin and Jamie Krzyzak; grandchildren, Brittany (D.J.) Fassbender, Andrew Zebell, Bailey Kropelin, Austin Schroeder, Kaleb Monti, Danika Rusch, and Aiden Monti; great-grandchildren Castiel and Mackenzie Fassbender; nine siblings, Ronald Sommerfeldt, Barbara Shugart, Clarence III (Ann) Maack, Paulette Maack, Paul (Nadine) Maack, Julie (Barry) Siddons, Jennifer (Larry) Anderson, Jeffrey Maack, and Melanie Maack and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Carol was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents, Clarence and Mildred Maack; sister-in-law Linda Sommerfeldt; brother-in-law, Michael Shugart; niece, Jodie Sommerfeldt; great-niece, Emily Ann Maack, and granddog, Charlie. Carol loved spending time with her daughters and grandkids. Nonni( the name the grandkids gave her_ was everything to them. Some of Carol’s other favorite things in life were, shooting pool and darts (back in the day), playing poker, bingo, 6-5-4, and watching her favorite TV shows. A celebration of Life will be held from 1 pm until 5 pm, Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019 at the the Moose Lodge on Ward Ave. in La Crosse. Rest in peace “Pussy Cat” we love you.
