Obituary for James B. Moe

James B. Moe, 86, of La Crosse died Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Hillview Healthcare, La Crosse. Jim was born December 27, 1933, in La Crosse to Lester and Matilda (Wekseth) Moe. Jim graduated from Logan High School Class of 1952. After graduation he joined the United States Air Force, where he was stationed at Malmastron AFB, Montana from 1952-1956. Upon returning he went to DeVry University to study electronics. Upon returning to La Crosse he joined the National Guard. In 1960, he married Mary Marcou (Heiam). To this union was born a daughter Christine in 1962. Jim was employed by several businesses in La Crosse before retiring from Continental Can Co. He was fondly known as the "Market Street Santa", which was then moved to Riverside Park, merged with the Rotary Club and is now commonly known as the Rotary Lights.He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 52 for 65 years, Sons of Norway, very involved in the La Crosse Convention and Visitors Bureau, La Crosse Harbor Commission and several other community based groups. Jim married Margaret Aubey, September 6, 1997 and they moved to Nakomis Ave.,where he enjoyed his flowers, birds, fishing, painting and taking the pontoon out with friends. They happily lived there until July 2019, when they both became residents of Hillview Healthcare. Jim is survived by his wife Margaret, daughter Christine (Steven) Schroeder of La Crosse, grandchildren Danielle (John Carson) Schroeder of Waverly TN, Adam Schroeder of La Crosse, Hannah (Jack) Looney of Albany, OR, great-grandsons Jameson Carson and Maclin Looney, a sister Doris Lord of West Salem and a god-daughter Stephanie (Rick) Clemment of Stoddard. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, a sister Luella, several brothers-in-laws and many family and friends. Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1010 Sill Street, La Crosse. Pastor Roger Grow will officiate. Entombment with full military honors conducted by his brothers of American Legion Post 52, La Crosse will be in the Oak Grove Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of services at the church. Memorials can be given to the charity of choice in Jim's name.
