Obituary for Betty M. Schmitz


Betty M. Schmitz, 82, of West Salem, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2020, at Tomah Nursing and Rebab, Tomah, Wis. She was born January 27, 1938, in Hillsboro, Wis., to James and Golda (Klingaman) Good. She atttended schools in Hillsboro and was a graduate of Hillsboro High School. On February 7, 1959, she married Harold Schmitz in Hillsboro, Wis. Together they farmed in Gills Coulee, rural West Salem, for many years. Harold preceded Betty in death on February 28, 2004. Betty continued to live on the farm with her son, Allen, until her failing health caused her to move to the Rehab center in Tomah. Betty enjoyed to read. She also enjoyed fishing with her grandkids, taking several walks in the pasture of their farm, and hunting for Morel Mushrooms. Survivors include three children; daughter, Rita Meyer of West Salem and twin sons, Allen Schmitz of West Salem and Arlen (Anna) Schmitz of Wonewoc, Wis.; four grandchildren, Jimmy Schmitz of Wonewoc, Brandon (Amy) Meyer of Norwalk, Wis., Nathan (Morgan) Meyer of Cashton, Wis., and Jennifer Meyer of West Salem; two great-grandchildren, Logan Meyer of Norwalk and Hunter Meyer of Cashton; and one sister, Marlene Coleman of Tomah, Wis. In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, John; one brother, Junior (Ernestine) Good; and one brother-in-law, Fritz Coleman. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, February 7, 2020, at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Jostad Chapel, 121 N. Youlon St., West Salem. Pastor Joel Good will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. A visitation will be from 12 noon until the time of the service Friday at the church.
