Obituary for Irene L. Belling

Irene Lavonne (Slama) Belling peacefully passed away on February 11, 2020. She was born on August 27, 1937, in La Crosse to Joseph and Agnes (Beranek) Slama. Irene married William Belling, her husband of 53 years, on January 3, 1959. He preceded her in death on July 20, 2012.They were both members of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in La Crosse. Irene was a beautician and business owner of Coulee Hair Fashions for many years. Her husband, Bill, transformed their basement into a beauty parlor so she could welcome clients into her home. She made lasting relationships with all of her clients and co-workers. In between doing hair, she had special visitors in her home: her grandchildren. They were her true hobby. She always greeted them with open arms, a big smile, and her time. When her grandchildren were around, 100% of her attention was on them. Often, they would spend time around the large kitchen table playing games (Scrabble, Sorry, Mancala, puzzles) or baking. Without a doubt, each grandchild, and great-grandchild, would say that she is the best grandma! Not only were her grandchildren important to her, but also the rest of her family. She hosted holidays and birthday parties for each family member. There was always laughter and memories made. Her family would often reminisce on times together, and she was always quick to respond with, “so many wonderful memories.” Irene will be dearly missed but she has given her family “so many wonderful memories” to cherish. She moved to Carroll Heights and made many friends with the residents there. Irene is survived by her children, Diane (Fritz) Lovensheimer of Ohio, Mike (Mary Brickl) Belling, Janet (Joseph) Erickson, and Mary Belling, all of La Crosse; grandchildren, Gabriel (Kate) Tippery, Amanda (Scott) Genheimer, Nicole (Kyle) Christianson, Brian Belling, Frank (Ceilia) Hewines, Tony Hewines, and Jacob and Joelle Erickson; great-grandchildren, Isabella, Ezra, Audrey, Emily, Cole and Lenna; sister Rosemary (Dick) Rosenthal of Green Bay, and brother-in-law Lyle Klinski. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William, son, John Belling, sister, Marie Klinski, brother, Vernon Slama, sister-in-law, Marion Slama, and daughter-in-law, Tracy Belling. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, February 17, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1333 So. 13th St., La Crosse. Father G. Richard Roberts will officiate. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Eternal Light Mausoleum at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to attend a visitation at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, (Woodruff Chapel), 4239 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse, on Sunday beginning at 4:00 p.m. and concluding with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Friends may also attend visitation at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass.
