Obituary for Mildred I. Bjorkman

Mildred “Milly” (Schroeder) Bjorkman, 97, of Bangor, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at the Morrow Home in Sparta. She was born June 30, 1922, on a dairy farm just outside of Bangor to William and Lillian (Vehrenkamp) Schroeder. On July 15, 1943, she married Du Wayne “Dewey” Bjorkman, also of rural Bangor, in Los Angeles. After the war, they moved back to Bangor where they lived for 60 years. She spent the last four years living at the Salem Terrace in West Salem, where she enjoyed noon meals with her friends and played nightly card games with the girls. In her childhood, Milly loved the outdoors, the farm animals, her many pets, and especially riding horses. From 1936 until 1942, she was an avid swing-dancer in area ballrooms. Milly also loved the game of golf and played until age 88. She was a founding member of the Bangor and Area Historical Society in the early 1980’s and the Society recently announced that this Spring Milly will be recognized with its annual Service Award.
