Obituary for Jess Whitewater

Jess Whitewater, 89, of French Island passed away Sunday, March 1, 2020 went to be in heaven after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimers and Dementia, at Tomah VA Medical Center, Tomah. He was born on December 8, 1930 in La Crosse the son of Jess and Jessie (Hansen) Whitewater. He attended La Crosse Area Schools. He then began his proud military career serving in the US Army. Jess was also extremely proud of the fact he was a Korean War veteran. He married Alice Pratt in 1983 and she preceded him in death. He then married Gloria Hirschfield on May 26, 1990 and she survives him. He was worked at Trane Company (Ingersoll Rand) proudly for over 30 years. Jess also had a great love of many outdoor activities in life namely shooting trap, archery, tennis, golf, bowling and especially hunting and fishing. He was a proud lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post 417-French Island. He is survived by his wife Gloria (Hirschfield) Whitewater, one brother Gene, one sister Evelyn Shepherd, his stepchildren, many nieces and nephews. Jess was preceded in death by his parents, his late wife Alice, three brothers; James, Raymond and Donald Whitewater, three sisters; Bernieda Pettygrove, Eva Revels and Donna Hansen. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Woodruff Chapel, 4239 Mormon Coulee Road, La Crosse. In keeping with his Ho-Chunk Heritage Richard Mann will perform the Ho-Chunk Burial Rites. Burial will be in the French Island Cemetery. Visitation for Jess will be held from 9:00 am until the time of services Saturday, March 7, 2020 at the funeral home.
