Obituary for Edwin E. "Ed" Garbers


Ed Garbers (69) passed away peacefully March 7, 2020, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. Ed was born October 14, 1950, To Edwin F and Shirley (Mashak) Garbers. He graduated from Central High School. Ed worked at Trane Co, Machine Products, Gateway Glass, and several repair shops in LaCrosse. Ed was able to open his own business ( Ed’s Service Center) on March 1, 1983. He was very proud of his ability to fix vehicles and help people out with automotive problems. He was extremely happy that his son was keeping his legacy going. Ed enjoyed racing, fishing and playing cards in his spare time. Ed is survived by his wife, Kay; and sons, William (Jennifer) and Joseph Garbers; sister, Susan Garbers; and brother, James (Julie) Garbers; in laws, Steven (Patty) Elsbernd, Joan McIntire, Nancy (Donald) Brincks, Alan (Susan) Elsbernd, Darrel (Teri) Elsbernd, and Debra ( Dean) Beckman; nieces and nephews, Kyle Garbers,Kendra (Jake) Deschaine, Darla Elsbernd, Anne (Scott) Wilson, Jay (Leslie) Elsbernd, Katie and Erin Elsbernd, Brian (Charlotte) Brincks, Jeff (Sarah) Brinks, Glen (Beth) Elsbernd, Scott, Darren, Daniel and Gerald Elsbernd, Aidan, Cale and Erica Beckman. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at Mary, Mother of the Church, 2006 Weston Street, La Crosse. Father Brian Konopa will be the celebrant. A visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Tuesday at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Woodruff Chapel, 4239 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass Wednesday at the church.
