Obituary for Harriett Ann Slack

Harriett Ann Slack, 90, of Onalaska, Wis. passed away peacefully on Friday, May 8, 2020 at Onalaska Care Center. She was born May 26, 1929 to George and Irene Barker. Harriett married Leland Slack in 1944 and were later divorced. Harriett was a farm wife and mother of her five children. She worked in nursing homes, Lutheran Hospital, and did private home care in her later years. Through the years she belonged to many garden and homemakers clubs, Old Stylers Polka Club, Lakeview Health Auxiliary, and a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church/Ruth’s Circle. Harriett’s hobbies included weaving rugs, knitting, quilting, and her love for cooking. She always had an extra potato in the pot and extra plate in the table with homemade bread. She was always sharing whatever she had helping family, friends, and neighbors. Survivors include her two sisters, Marylin Curtis of Pollock Pines, Calif. and Mary Foley-Richardson of Sacramento, Calif.; brother, Donald Barker of Chowchilla, Calif.; children, Patricia Hughes of Thomasville, N.C., Linda Peters of Lansing, Iowa, Kathryn Jackson of Readstown, Wis. and Charles Slack of Onalaska, Wis. and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Brookie of Laurel, Mont., sister, Betty Seeley of Chowchilla, Calif.; grandson, Shem Alder of Charleston, S.C., and previous husband, Leland Slack of Red Lodge, Mont. A memorial service will be held from 11:00 am until 12:30 am, on Friday, May 29, 2020 at the Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Woodruff Chapel, La Crosse. Burial will follow in the Boscobel Cemetery.
