Obituary for Carol M. Konkol

Carol Mae Konkol (Girouard) departed this life to be with Jesus on July 19. She was 91 years old. Carol lived well, loved to laugh, and loved to pray for her children, their spouses, and her 11 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren, 1 step-great grandchild and her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Richard and her two sisters, Virginia Hagen and Bev Jeffery. Carol was born April 10, 1929 to Arthur and Neva (Jay) Girouard in Black River Falls. She married Arnie Konkol in June 1947. She was a homemaker and stay-at-home mom to her six children before enjoying working at her sister’s A & W Root Beer stand and later as a Mary Kay consultant and teachers’ aid. She worked at Ft McCoy in the finance department before retiring in 1994. Carol enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, bowling and crocheting, but most of all she loved just being with her family and cheering them on. Carol is survived by her 6 children; Francie Kahler (Daniel), David (Peggy Pierce), Kurt (Karen Ristuben), Kris, Dale (Rosemary Knapp) and Mary Jo Slegel (Jamie). Carol had not been well for several years and had been confined to her bed at the Benedictine Manor in La Crosse. On the day of her departure she was not in pain and at peace. The family has a recording of her singing one of her favorite hymns, When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder. After singing the final words, "and I'll be there," she added "And you can bet on it!" Due to COVID restrictions there will be no visitation. She will be laid to rest in a private service at Riverside Cemetery in Black River Falls.
