Obituary for Nadeen Joyce (Weaver) Matuska


Nadeen Joyce (Weaver) Matuska, 90, of West Salem, passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Riverside Transitional Care, La Crosse. Nadeen was born August 31, 1930 in Pittsburgh, PA, to Thomas and Margaret (Davis) Weaver. After her father’s passing, their family relocated to La Crosse, her mother Margaret’s hometown. Nadeen graduated from La Crosse Teachers’ College in 1952; beginning in Sparta, WI as an Elementary Teacher and finished her career as a Teacher’s Aide for the West Salem School District. On November 25, 1952, Nadeen married Keith William Matuska before his deployment to the Korean War. Together, they raised a family of five children and in those adventures, Nadeen often said, “I could write a book that even Ripley wouldn’t believe”. Nadeen enjoyed: her family, music(played piano, organ, violin), house plants and flower gardening(had the best “Green Thumb”), motorcycle rides and fishing with her spouse, animals, people watching, crafts, jigsaw puzzles and watching Brewer games. Nadeen is survived by: her children, Tom(Barb)Matuska of Cedar Rapids, IA; Bill Matuska of Onalaska, WI; Dan Matuska of Sparta, WI and Joyce(Randy)Schultz of West Salem, WI; her grandchildren, Travis(Tiffany)Matuska; Eric(Amy)Matuska; Lucas(Mikaela)Schultz and Danielle Schultz; great-grandchildren, Max Matuska and Mason, Jackson and Reagan Matuska; sister-in-law, Kris Matuska of Boulder City, NV; nieces and nephews; Cooper, the family dog that always made her smile. Nadeen was preceded in death by: her parents, her spouse Keith, their youngest child David Keith Matuska,her sister and brother-in-law Marjorie(Robert)Lane, brother-in-law and his spouse Grant(Rose)Matuska, brother-in-law Ralph Matuska, and in later years her dear friend Tony Motel. As Nadeen wished; her ashes will be united with her spouse’s, there will be no visitation, but rather a private family graveside service and burial, occurring on Monday, March 29, 2021 at Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse. Pastor Lisa Shank will officiate. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Jostad Chapel, West Salem, is assisting the family in their time of loss. Nadeen’s family would also like to give a special thank you to all the staff of Riverside Transitional Care, “for the excellent care of our Mom, especially in this time of Covid-19 restrictions; with twice weekly FaceTime visits and the Staff’s care, Mom had the best quality of life possible.” Nadeen will truly be missed. 3/13/2021…this day, “Heaven just gained a beautiful Angel” -Lucas S.
