Obituary for Marvin F. Meiners

Marvin F. Meiners, 90, formerly of Brownsville, Minn., died Saturday, October 8, 2011, at Caledonia Care and Rehab.
He was born April 4, 1921, in Winnebago Township, Houston County, Minn., to Edward and Verna (Pottratz) Meiners. In June of 1943, Marvin married Ella Schroeder at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, and they later divorced. On March 26, 1970, he married Helen (Besse) Schmoll in Decorah, Iowa. Marvin farmed in Winnebago Township for many years. In addition to farming, he became a very skilled welder and owned and operated his own welding business. In his later years, Marvin also enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Helen of Caledonia; four children, Devoine (Barbara) Meiners of Eitzen, Minn., Harley (Joanne) Meiners of Caledonia, Allen (Connie) Meiners of Eitzen, and Glenda (James) Miller of Caledonia; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three step-children and their families, Jean Klein of Rochester, Minn., Donnie (JoAnne) Schmoll of Newark, Ohio, and Kenny (Shirley) Schmoll of Hendersonville, N.C.; one brother-in-law, Russell (Lorraine) Besse of Caledonia; and two former sisters-in-law, Amanda Olson of Spring Grove, Minn. and Helen Schroeder of Caledonia.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter in infancy, Jeanette; and a sister, Erna Diersen.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Community Ev. Free Church, 188 Plum St., (corner of 2nd and Plum Sts.), New Albin, Iowa. Pastor Jim Olsen will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia, Minn. Friends may call at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, 518 W. Main St., Caledonia, on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Online condolences may be sent at
