Obituary for Geraldine "Gerry" Oseth


Geraldine (Gerry) Ione Oseth, 89, of Caledonia, MN passed away on October 15,, 2021. Gerry was born on January 30, 1932 to Elmer and Bernice Horn (Kuecker) in Houston County and was a lifelong resident of Caledonia. Gerry met the love of her life, Norman Oseth and married him on August 10, 1952. Together they ran a dairy and chicken farm and raised three daughters. She went back to work at the Houston County Courthouse when the children were older and rose to be the Deputy Clerk of Court for the county. She was also affectionately named the ‘egg lady’ for many years in the city of Caledonia. Norman and Gerry were polka dancers, competitive card players and avid golfers. Following Norman and Gerry’s retirement, they enjoyed many years of the “snowbird” life, travelling to Mesa, AZ during the winter months. During this time, they made many lifelong friends. Gerry left behind her daughters Chris (Tom) Zwirlein of Colorado Springs, CO, Sandy (John) Nelson of Viroqua, WI, and Julie (Stephen) Schulte of Caledonia. She had seven grandchildren; Ryan (Katie), Kate (Sean), Michael, Nick, Lindsay (Stefan), Alyssa (Nick) and Cole (Amanda) as well as four great-grandchildren; Avalon, Tenzin, Maggie and Jack and another one due any day. Gerry is also survived by her sisters Janice Doely (Arlen), LaVonne Oitzman (Richard), and her brothers Dale Horn (Carol) and Wayne Horn (Kathy) and brother-in-law Ray Snell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, her parents, Elmer and Bernice Horn, her sisters Beverly Snell and Lorraine Melendy, her brother Wilmer Horn, sister-in-law Cel Horn, brother-in-law Bob Melendy and grandson Michael Zwirlein. A special thank you to the staff of Claddagh Senior Living of Caledonia for their loving care over the last few years. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 21, 2021, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Caledonia, Minn. Rev. Tom Schultz will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m., until the time of service, Thursday, at the church.
