Obituary for James "Steve" Nations


James “Steve” Nations, 67, of Stoddard and formerly of South Carolina, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born April 28, 1954, in Anderson, S.C., to James and Sylvia (Kelley) Nations. Steve served in the United States Army for 7 years until being honorably discharged. He was employed for Norfolk Southern Railroad as a communication supervisor for 30 years. On December 22, 2010, Steve married Lana Phillips. He enjoyed playing guitar, singing, riding his Harley, and building computers. Survivors include his mother, Sylvia (Paul “Stephen”) Fischel; his wife, Lana; step-children, Ricky (Shelly) Hass, Randal (Teresa) Hass, and Ronda Pruett; step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Dennis “Bubba” (Marsha) Phillips and Lenny “Lonzo” (Linda) Phillips; two brothers, Kelley (Linda) Nations and Neal (Lisa) Nations; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
