Obituary for William "Bill" Nehls


WEST SALEM - William (Bill) Nehls, 88, passed away surrounded by his family, Sunday, April 10, 2022, at the VA Medical Center, Tomah, Wisconsin. He was born on October 29, 1933 to Carl and Esther (Young) Nehls, he graduated from Bangor High School in 1951. Bill worked many places in Bangor including the Bangor Bowling Alley. Bill served proudly in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. On his leaves he traveled to London, Paris, Berlin and many other places. After his discharge in 1958, Bill worked at the Farmer’s Creamery, Bangor, Wisconsin until his retirement. Bill enjoyed telling stories about his travels during the time he spent in the service, but he had many other stories to tell. He enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, and the Milwaukee Brewers. Survivors include his sister Doris (David) Witte, Nieces, Robyn Cornford and her children, Nathan Cornford and Nicole (Dave) Steiger, Jacquie Jacque and her children Maria and Andre Jacque, Nancy (Aaron) Opland, and her children Matthew (Abbey) Opland, Tyler, Kyle and Kaitlyn Opland, Nephew Daniel Buol, great-nephews and nieces Brian (Allison) Hemker and Scott Hemker and Christopher and Kimberly Paul. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ilene (LaVerne) Buol, Nieces Linda (Charles) Hemker, Barbara (Lester) Paul, nephew David Buol. We would like to thank the staff and the VA Medical Center for the excellent care given to Bill, and to family and friends for their support. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., April 21, 2022, at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, 121 N. Youlon St., West Salem. Pastor Jonathan Schmidt will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Bangor. A visitation will be from 10:30 a.m., until the time of service at the funeral home.
