Obituary for Lowell R. Hehl, Jr

Lowell R. Hehl, Jr., better known as “Junior” or “JR,” 52, of West Salem passed away at Gundersen Health System on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, with his daughters by his side. Junior was born on July 26, 1969, to Lowell R. and Karen J. Hehl, Sr. in La Crosse, WI. He grew up in West Salem, where he also attended grade school and high school. He had a brief stint at UW-Barron County, but decided the workforce was a better fit for him. Junior enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his grandsons, Jaxson and Carter. He was an avid Packer and Brewer fan as well as a Cub fan, which seems like an oxymoron. He was a Cub fan because his Grandpa Hehl was a Cub’s fan. He enjoyed bowling and playing Summer and Co-Ed Rec Softball (he even allowed his kid sister to tagalong and play). Survivors include his children, Cassidy Peterson (sons, Jaxon and Carter), Courtney Peterson, and Leo. He is survived by his dad, Lowell Hehl and sister, Melissa Hehl along with nephew, Kyle Hehl, who was more like a brother. He is further survived by his brother-in-law, Brad Hrabak, and nephew and nieces, Jarod (Sam) Hrabak, Jacey (Nick) Hrabak, and Kayla Hrabak, as well as great-nephews Brayden and Briggs Hehl. He was preceded in death by his mom, Karen, who is probably kicking his butt right now and his sister Tamie, who passed just weeks before he did. Grandparents, Frank and Arvilla Hehl, Mathias Kopp, Sr. and Effie and Carl Anderson as well as aunts and uncles on both sides of his family. There will be no funeral services. There will be a private family viewing before Junior is cremated. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Memorials, messages, and cards may be sent to Lowell Hehl, 604 Campfire Drive, West Salem, WI 54669 and will be forwarded onto his daughters.
