Obituary for Bruce A. "Bud" Ackerson, Jr.


Bruce A. "Bud" Ackerson, Jr., 58, of La Crescent, Minn., passed away Thursday, December 1, 2011, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
He was born May 2, 1953, in Trieste, Italy, to Bruce, Sr. and Helen (Isbister) Ackerson. Bud was a veteran of the United States Army having served from 1970 until being honorably discharged in 1973, which included one year serving in Korea. Bud and his former wife, Debbie, raised their two beautiful children, Jessica and Jeremy, and they later divorced. Bud was an avid sports lover who was very active and involved in his children's sporting activities. He claimed he was the last surviving Miami Dolphins fan left in the north. Bud was employed by Trane Company in La Crosse for 37 years. He was a member of the IAMAW Machinist Union Lodge 21 in La Crosse. On June 18, 1999, Bud married the love of his life, Connie Zielke, on the beach in Hollywood, Fla. Together they made many happy memories doing what they loved, especially fishing, camping, making pickles, having fires in the back yard, and much more. Bud was a loving father who had a special relationship with his children and grandchildren, the lights of his life, creating many lasting memories, having fires in the back yard, roasting marshmallows, going to his daughter's farm, and especially the many fishing excursions with his daughter, Jessica in her younger years. He was a very funny, fun loving, and caring man who always found a way to make everyone around him feel his comical sense of humor. Bud will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his loving wife, Connie; his two children, Jessica Lynn (Adam) Bennett and Jeremy Bruce (Megan) Ackerson; three step-children, Eric (Cara) Lee, Christopher (Teresa) Lee, and Marcia (Sam) Cooley; six grandchildren, Kerstin Lee, Gage Lee, Sarah Cooley, Wyatt Bennett, Tobias Bennett, and Theodore Lee; his mother, Helen Morgan; his step-mother, Jeannie Ackerson; his mother-in-law, Lois Zielke; six sisters, Pamela (Eliot) Barden, Mary "Penny" (Elliott) Weinger, Susan (Pat) Callahan, Janean "Janey" (Richard) Tribou, Meaghan (Chris) Onarheim, Jodi Raduenz; two brothers, Paul "Chip" (Mindy) Ackerson and Michael (Andrea) Ackerson; four sisters-in-law, Diannah (Tom) Hendrickson, Maxine Smith, Angie Zeno, and Barbara Timm; two brothers-in-law, Albert Zielke and Kevin Zielke; his special army buddy, "Turk;" and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bud was preceded in death by his father; his brother, Bobby Ackerson; and his sister, Tina Mokotoff.
A prayer service will be Friday, December 9, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Crucifixion, 423 S. 2nd. St., La Crescent, Minn. Father Gregory Havel will officiate. There will be no burial. A visitation will be held at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, (Woodruff Chapel), 4239 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse, on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. beginning with the rendering of military honors at 3:30 p.m. by the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 of La Crosse and the United States Army Funeral Honor Guard.
