Condolences for Lorraine M. (Greene) Newbrough

Aunt Lori was one of the most wonderful, inspirational women in my life. She and my Mammaw (Uncle Joe's sister) played significant roles in who I am. I will always be grateful to these two powerful women who knew my heart and were always there for me. Faith and family were everything to her and best describe what Aunt Lori was all about. She always seemed to know when someone needed her. Sometimes it was a phone call, other times during my visits to San Diego or her visits to Texas. But, she always knew when I needed her most and was there to advise me. That was her gift. When it came to faith, Aunt Lori had it in spades. She was all about Catholicism, and she was so happy when Collins decided to attend Strake Jesuit High School here in Houston. During each of my trips to San Diego, we went to church at least once. She especially loved her church. I remember how beautiful it was. On my last visit, Aunt Lori wanted to visit this church that a friend of hers told her about—and you know Aunt Lori had a ton of friends—so we went to this church. I can't remember the language—I want to say it was Polish—and about halfway through the service, after getting up and kneeling a few too many times, we decided to leave. She limped out of there very slowly, leaning heavily on her cane. Outside I asked her if she was in pain. She said she didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings by leaving in the middle of the service, and if they saw her limping, they would think she was in pain and not be offended. Always considerate, that was Aunt Lori. As Traci said, she was a pioneer among women. Besides being more educated than most women of her time, she had this innate ability to see through any issue presented to her and have the solution readily available. Although her counsel will be greatly missed, as will her love, she is with Uncle Joe now, and I know that brings her great joy. I want to thank Karen for keeping me abreast of Aunt Lori's condition. With Aunt Lori unable to speak or use the phone, it has been hard not to see her or talk with her so Karen's emails have been welcome. I am sorry I will not be at her service and meet all of her family that I have heard so much about, but please know that I will be with you all in spirit.

Aunt Lorraine, was a woman of great faith and shared this with others. She was gifted at conversation and taking time to speak to each person in a room and show personal interest in their lives. She was thoughtful and passionate. Rest in peace.
