Obituary for Samuel D. Meyer


Samuel D. Meyer, 26, of New Albin, passed away Friday, October 8, 2021. He was born November 12, 1994 to Wayne and Jane (Gavin) Meyer also of New Albin. He has three surviving sisters, Katie (Alex) Berns, Jill (Cody) Mathis, and Valerie Meyer and her fiancé, Ethan Von Arx. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Layla, Collin and Levi Mathis, and Brooklyn and Kashton Berns. Sam was a 2013 graduate of Kee High School and also earned an Associate's Degree in Agriculture Business from NICC in Calmar IA in 2016. After he graduated, he began working with his father at Valley Ag in New Albin for two years and since has been employed at the CHS River Grain Terminal in Winona, MN. Some of Sam’s greatest joys were spending time with friends and family. He enjoyed going to Minnesota Twins baseball games and Green Bay Packer football games. He also enjoyed fishing and deer hunting with friends and especially enjoyed pheasant hunting in South Dakota with his dad. Sam was a member of the New Albin Fire Department and a lifetime member of St. Peter’s Church in New Albin. Honorary pallbearers include: Ian Burroughs, Logan Burroughs, Jared Donahue, Tyler Ross, Blake Dixon, Hunter Fink, Eric Rask, Chris Carroll, and Luke Gavin. A public visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 14, 2021, at the New Albin Community Center. A private family memorial service will be Friday, October 15, 2021, at St. Peter's Christian Community Church in New Albin. Pastor Dick Wohlgemuth and Rev. William Reese will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Memorial Cemetery, New Albin. Sam’s gentleness will be a memory to bring us comfort in the days ahead. Goodbyes are not forever. Goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean you’ll be missed until we meet in God’s eternal home.
