Obituary for Frederick "Bud" Fiers


Frederick "Bud" Fiers, 86, passed away surrounded by his loving family on October 27th, 2021 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. Fred, known lovingly by his family as Bud, was born in La Crosse to Frederick and Elizabeth (Schlicht) Fiers. He married the love of his life, Joanne Bendel, on September 22, 1956. Bud lived his whole life in La Crosse and shared 65 of those years with Joanne, building a life and raising a family. Bud was a pressman at La Crosse Printing, Inland Printing and retiring from Davies Printing. Bud also served his country for 21 years in the National Guard based out of Fort McCoy retiring with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He had a talent for building and fixing anything, often making them like new again. This was especially true with wood working and refinishing. He loved the outdoors and plants, trees and flowers flourished with his care, including many varieties that weren't native to this area. Of Bud’s many pastimes his love of spending time on the Mississippi River camping with family and friends is one of his most enduring and he was able to make one last trip on the river for his 86th birthday. Bud was beloved by his family and friends and known for his gentle nature, quick wit, and his one-of-a-kind pancakes. Bud will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Joanne (Bendel) Fiers; children, Debbie (Kevin) Tyler of La Crosse, Doug (Julie) Fiers of Waunakee, WI, and Mark Fiers (Kristie Billiar) of Hastings, MN; grandchildren, William (Yang Li) Fiers , Elise Fiers, Joe Curti, Rebekah Fiers, Ben (Jaycee) Fiers, Nathaniel Fiers, Alex Fiers; and great granddaughter, Vivee Fiers. He is additionally survived by brothers, Robert Fiers and Thomas Fiers; a sister Vicki Bloczynski; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also survived by sister-in-law Patricia and Phil Bartz, and Vicki Grant. Bud was preceded in death by his parents Frederick and Elizabeth Fiers, sister Marlene Fiers, and brother Gerald Fiers. Also Victor and Farrell Bendel, Marlys and Bob Vara, Donna and Larry Davis, Richard "Dick" Bendel, and Don and Ann Bendel. A memorial services will be at 1 pm, on Friday, Nov. 5, 2021 at the Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Woodruff Chapel, La Crosse (4239 Mormon Coulee Rd.) Deacon Bob Zietlow will officiate.
