Obituary for David Kenneth Witte Sr


David Kenneth Witte Sr., 83, of West Salem formerly of Melrose, passed away on Sunday, June 19th, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 17th, 1938 to Kenneth and Myrtle (Simenson) Witte and graduated from Melrose High School in 1956 where he excelled as the best linebacker on the football team. David is survived by his current wife Doris (Nehls) Puent, (with whom he was happily married to for 40 years), her two children: Robyn Cornford of Prairie du Chien, Jacquie Jacque of Reedsburg. He was also survived by his first wife, Alvern (Tranberg) Johnson of Whitehall, their 3 children: Caroline Carrie (Shannon Waterworth) of Appleton, David Kent Witte Jr. (Roger Loewenhagen) of Whitehall, Kristi Witte (Becky Hole) of Yuma, AZ; 5 grandchildren: Mary Mueller, Gene Carrie (Melissa), David Kenneth Witte lll (Kelly), Kylee Pettis (Justin), Devin Witte (Sami Harvey and her 2 daughters Kassidie and Alaina); 8 great-grandchildren: Hannah and Hailey Witte, Keegan Odell, Ian Mueller, Gabriel and Mikaylan Carrie, Johanna and Quinn Pettis; 4 step-grandchildren: Nathan Cornford, Nicole Steiger (Dave), Andre and Maria Jacque; his sister Rose Rand, 2 nieces, 2 nephews, and many cousins. David was a dairy farmer in Melrose for many years. After farming, he worked at Northern Engraving, worked as a janitor at La Crosse County Courthouse, and mowed the golf course at Maple Grove Country Club. He was always a great conversationalist and left an impression on most everyone he met! David was well known for making and giving away home-made rosettes and lefse during the Christmas holidays. Some of his hobbies included woodworking and road trips. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers-in-law (DeLayne Rand and Bill Nehls); a sister-in-law (Ilene Buol). A special thank you to David’s caregivers for their excellent care: Jessica and Troy Crogan, Paula Bockenfeld, Natalie Jeranek, Brianne Luebke, Madison Mueller, Ashley Goodness, and Mary Kolve. Additional thank you to Jill Munson and Jenelle Becker for their continued support. Memorial services will be held at 11:00am on June 28th, 2022, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 359 Leonard Street N in West Salem, Wisconsin. Visitation begins at 9:30am. Burial will follow at the Neshonoc Cemetery.
