Obituary for Leslie Edward Snyder


Leslie Edward Synder, 85, of La Crosse, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 2nd. He was born July 29th, 1936, in La Crosse. He attended Central High School and joined the Army at the age of 17 in November of 1953 and served in Korea. He married his wife Carol on October 15, 1955. They had two daughters, Karen and Diane.

He worked for the street department of the City of La Crosse for 38 years, working his way up to assistant superintendent. He also served as Vice President of the Wisconsin State SEIU. He retired January of 1995.

He enjoyed ice fishing, hunting, boating, traveling, going to rummage sales and especially spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Diane Snyder-Haug; grandchildren, Nicole (Jason) Chojnacki and David Baumgartner; great-granddaughter Caeli Chojnacki; sisters, Betty Bork, Pauline Johnson, Wauneta (Ed) Dutton, and brother, Arnold (Rose) Snyder.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Shore; son-in-law, Robert Snyder-Haug; sister, Shirley Arnold; and brother, Richard Snyder.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, July 9th, at Mary, Mother of the Church, 2006 Weston St, La Crosse, at 10:30 AM, with visitation from 9:30 until the time of service. Burial to follow with military honors at the Catholic Cemetary on Losey Boulevard. Father Brian Konopa will officiate.
