Obituary for Alan E. Wunnecka

We are deeply saddened to announce the tragic passing of Alan Eldor Wunnecka, age 60, of Freeburg, Minnesota, Friday December 2, 2022. He was born November 1, 1962 to Eldor and Vicky Wunnecka.

He attended school in Caledonia, MN and then started working on the family farm alongside his father. He later began his own salvage business “Wunnecka Salvage” to which he grew very successful at.

One of his greatest passions was farming, he had a love for the old fashioned ways of farming and with that he got involved with threshing oats. With that he got very close to the Amish communities. This had also made him realize that he had an undeniable talent and ability to restore the old, forgotten equipment. Another one of his favorite hobbies was working on and also breaking down cars for demolition derby’s. He had such a love for animals, to name one specifically would be Snowflake the cow he raised from her birth. Over the years he had many pets including many dogs, indoor and outdoor cats. None of this would have been possible without his family and friends being his main support system.

Alan is survived by his 3 daughters, Kaitlyn, Alaina, and Megan Wunnecka; sisters, Tammy (John) Moen and Dawn (Kevin) Lintereur; brother, Darin (Heather) Wunnecka; special friends, Andy Moen, Jay (Patty) Richards, and Myron Wunnecka, and many others too numerous to mention; nine nieces; one nephew; two great-grand-nieces; his parents, Eldor and Vicky Wunnecka; and several special aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A public visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at the New Albin Community Center in New Albin, Iowa. A private service will be held at Peace Church, Crooked Creek Township. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Alan will be deeply missed and loved forever. As Alan always said; “everything happens for a reason.”
