Obituary for Linda Lusk

With the sound of a distant train whistle, Linda Lusk passed away peacefully surrounded by her family December 9, 2022, at Gundersen Health System.

It was May 11, 1945, when Wilbur and Ruth (Ender) Hauser welcomed their first baby girl into the family. The Hauser farm, off Hwy 16, was where Linda grew up. She graduated from West Salem High School, class of 1963. Madison was where she chose to continue her education at secretarial school. During this time, she started dating Ed Lusk. They married December 26, 1964, at the West Salem Presbyterian Church where she was a lifelong, active, and supportive member.

Linda and Ed made their home at her family farm where they welcomed two sons, Mike and Brian. While Ed worked the farm, Linda had employment at NCR, Johnson Controls, The Boy Scouts, and finally, at La Crosse County where she worked as an employee of the clerk of courts. She retired in 2011 after 22 years of service to the county.

Traveling was a great enjoyment for Linda. She and Ed traveled to Hawaii, Yellowstone, Black Hills, Alaska, Branson and Florida. She enjoyed watching sports, especially the Wisconsin Badgers, Packers, Brewers and the West Salem Panthers. Her weeks were filled with casino trips, euchre games, bingo, getting her hair and nails done, along with many phone chats with her friends.

Her true happiness came from her grandchildren, who meant the world to her. Linda always had a pan of her famous scotch-a-roos for them or anyone who stopped by to visit.

Linda is survived by her husband, Ed; sons, Mike Lusk and Brian (Camille) Lusk all of West Salem; grandchildren, Laura Lusk of West Salem, Michelle (Sia) Lusk of La Crosse, Kelly Lusk of West Salem, and Heath Cleveland of Bangor; step-grandchildren, Regan (Tim) Koonce of Holmen, Alex (Samantha) Koonce of La Crosse, and Zeke (Morgan) Koonce of La Crosse; 6 step-great-grandchildren; brother, Ken Hauser of West Salem; sister, Susan Anderson of Holmen; sister-in-law, Julie (Darrell) Wise of Des Moines, Iowa; sister-in-law, Linda Brown of Holmen; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Jerome Anderson; sister-in-law, Jenni Hauser; and mother-in-law, Agnes Wehrenberg.

A Celebration of Life luncheon will take place January 8, 2023, at the West Salem American Legion from 1pm-5pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the West Salem American Legion Building Fund.

The family thanks the critical care unit staff at Gundersen for the excellent care Linda received during her final days. Also, thanks to Mayo Clinic for their years of care for her. We greatly appreciate all of you.
