Obituary for Marion Ardelle Severson


Marion Ardelle Severson, 92, of West Salem, passed away peacefully, Monday, January 9, 2023, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.

She was born April 22, 1930, in La Crosse County to Leslie Stratman and Selma (Pederson) Stratman. She attended schools in Barre Mills and graduated from West Salem High School in 1948. She was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Barre Mills. On March 1, 1949, she married LaVerne Severson and together they had 2 sons. Marion worked at several places throughout her life including the Auto Lite, NCR and Osco Drug for 23 years and was considered a Pharmacy Tech. Marion loved the retail business and working with people.

Marion and LaVerne loved to go out dancing at local dance halls on the weekends and Friday nights with the family often enjoying lobster as a special treat; at that time 2 tails were .99 cents at Shorty's Grocery.

Marion was very proud of her grandchildren and loved to spend time with them. They blessed her with 7 great-grandchildren and the cookie jar was always full for their visits.

Marion was a member of Christ Ev. Lutheran Church in West Salem where she served on the Ladies Aid. She also was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary of West Salem.

She is survived by a son, Bob (Denise) Severson; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Severson; four grandchildren, Brian (Sarah) Severson, Stephan (Donna) Severson, Kerry Severson, and Lacey Severson; seven great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Marion was preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne; her son, Kenneth Severson; her parents; her step-mother, Florence (Severson) Stratman; her sister Berniece (Bernard) Ghelfi; an infant brother, and many other special relatives and friends.

A Christian funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 16, 2023, at Christ Ev. Lutheran Church, 500 Park Street,  West Salem. Rev. Galen J. Riediger will officiate. Burial will be held in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, Monday, at the church.
