Obituary for Delano J. "Del" Hubing

Delano J. "Del" Hubing, 86, of La Crosse, passed away, surrounded by his family, on May 16th, 2024, at Mulder Health Care Center, in West Salem.

He was born August 25, 1937, in Neillsville, Wis., to Anton and Ethel (Mashak) Hubing. Del grew up in Neillsville, on the family farm, and graduated from High School, in 1956. He immediately enlisted in the United States Navy, serving with the Medical Corp. His final, and favorite duty station was in Adak, Alaska. He was honorably discharged in 1960.

On May 5, 1962, Del married Patricia Tollerud, at St. James Catholic Church, in La Crosse. Born to this union were three daughters: Debra, Diane, and Amy Jo. They also added to the family, by adopting Pat's brother, John Thorud.

Del was employed by various businesses, throughout the La Crosse area, before beginning his work at the United States Postal Service, where he retired, after 32 years of service. He was best known for bringing in Pat's delicious cakes, for all his co-workers to enjoy!

He spent much of his free time outdoors, trout fishing, enjoying weekends at their cabin in Hatfield, hiking, biking, and spending time with his grandchildren. Del would tell you that his favorite thing of all was spending time with his daughter, Amy Jo.

He looked forward to winter getaways, at the Outrigger Resort, in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida. He also took a memorable trip to Rome, Italy, to visit all the sacred sites. Del often stopped at the Highground Veterans Memorial Park, in Neillsville, to pay honor to those that served and savor the park's beauty.

Survivors include Debra (Kelly) Kuhse, Diane Welker, and John Thorud. Five grandchildren, Brittany (Robert) Cannon, Jessica Welker, Jacob Kuhse, Jeffrey (Kortney) Kuhse and their children Jordy and Kyler. Joshua Kuhse (fiancé, Jayna Prieur); brother, John Hubing; and sister Kathy Senteney.

Del was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia; daughter, Amy Jo; brother, Adrian; two sisters, Patricia (Larry) Anger and Marilyn Gregorich; daughter-in-law Dawn Reese Thorud; and sister-in-law, Patricia Hubing.

A private memorial service will be held at Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Woodruff Chapel, La Crosse. Entombment with military honors will be in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery.
