Obituary for David Denzel "Geepa" Easterday

David Denzel “Geepa” Easterday, 82 died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017 at Mulder Health Care Facility in West Salem. David was born on a small farm in Knapp Valley in Vernon County on “one cold day” January 29, 1935 to Chloris and Asta (Myhre) Easterday. He was baptized in Bloomingdale and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Westby. David attended Westby High School and graduated in 1953. He married his high school sweetheart, Vivian Nelson, of Westby on October 8, 1955. They raised a daughter and four sons in Coon Valley and later moved to Smith Valley in the town of Medary, La Crosse where they built their first home together. They later built a second home on Old Highway 16 outside of West Salem. David worked many jobs as a young man to include maintenance at the Hotel Stoddard, building houses, and even as a bouncer at the Country Kitchen in downtown La Crosse. He worked at Trane Company for over 43 years, learning many and varied production jobs as well as working his way into inspection and advancing to the position of Inspection Supervisor as well as Supplier Quality. David's hobbies included hunting, trophy Walleye and Musky fishing, and trap shooting. He enjoyed all of his hunting trips with his friends and family. David especially enjoyed anytime he could get north of the border to chase his dream of a fifty-inch Musky. David achieved his outdoor bucket list of shooting an eight-point buck, a fifty-two-inch Musky, a turkey and two elk with a bow. David was the President of the West Salem Rod and Gun club and a life member of the Gunslick trap club. He was the President of the Tri-State snowmobile club with many good trips with good friends. He enjoyed his golfing buddies and breakfast at Pine Creek Golf Course. David always said it was “a great pleasure to learn and work with so many good people and good friends”. he left us with many great stories, lessons, and legacy, most importantly “work together and help each other, keep this family together and love each other”. David is survived by his loving family of five children: Michael (Susan) Easterday of West Salem, Philip (Carla) Easterday of La Crosse, Joan (Curt) Alden of Portage, WI., Raymond (Mary) Easterday of La Crosse, and Paul Easterday (Jessica Miller, Fiancé) of Galesville, Wi. Ten Grand-children, Jenny (Scott) Leren, Janet (Neil) Blalock, Julie (Phillip) Vircks, Patrick Alden, Jessica (Kou) Her, Anthony (Rachael) Easterday, Preston Easterday, Quenton Easterday, Erica (Ben) Kampschnieder, Philip Gleason, and Ten Great Grand Children, (Wesley, Tyler, Leah) Leren, (Vivian, Lillian) Blalock, Stella Vircks, (Austin, Elaina) Her, (Logen, Braylyn) Easterday; one brother and two sisters. David is preceded in death by his wife, Vivian, by his parents, Chloris and Asta Easterday. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2017 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, West Salem. Pastor Jonathan and Jean Schmidt will officiate. A visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5 2017 at the Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Jostad Chapel, West Salem, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
