Obituary for Glenn J. Ruppert

Glenn J. Ruppert, 67, of Onalaska, died Thursday, July 21, 2011, at his home.
He was born October 26, 1943, in Callicoon, N.Y., the son of Alice (Schaefer) and Warren G. Ruppert. Glenn was a 1961 graduate of Ceasar Rodney High School, Dover, Del. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1964 and was stationed on the U.S.S. Yorktown in San Diego, Calif., until being honorably discharged in 1968. Glenn then attended flight school and became employed with Mississippi Valley Airlines in 1978, where he was promoted to a captain position in less than one year. It was during this time he met Judith Meyer, a flight attendant, and they were married on May 26, 1985, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Caledonia. When Mississippi Valley Airlines was aquired by Air Wisconsin, Glenn continued his role as captain until his retirement on October 26, 2003. In addition to his love for flying, Glenn loved to work on old cars and detailed them to make them look great. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Assosication. He also enjoyed watching professional sports.
Survivors include his loving wife, Judy; his mother, Alice (Schaefer) Ruppert; two brothers, Craig Ruppert and Warren (Nancy) Ruppert, Jr.; one sister, Roslyn (Gordon) Claus; two brothers-in-law, Gordon (Barb) Meyer and Lee (Laurie) Meyer; one sister-in-law, Jean (Burton) Wild; and many nephews and one niece.
Glenn was preceded in death by his father and his brother-in-law, Richard Meyer.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Ev. Lutheran Church, 1500 Sand Lake Rd., Holmen. Pastor Shaun Arndt will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia, Minn., with military honors by the Loveless-Eikens American Legion Post 191 of Caledonia and the United States Navy Funeral Honor Guard. Friends may call at Good Shepherd Ev. Lutheran Church, Holmen, on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and also on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Caledonia, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be sent at
