Obituary for David A. Oitzman


David A. Oitzman, Caledonia, MN On Thursday, January 17th, David Oitzman, loving husband and father to his wife and five great kids passed away peacefully at home at the age of 81. He was born in Caledonia, MN to Albert and Hulda Oitzman and grew up working hard on the family farm. As a young adult, David served in the United States Army. On a rainy day in July 1962, he married the love of his life, Hilda Braun at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Danube MN. David and Hilda farmed together outside of Caledonia and raised their children there. In May 1999, he and Hilda sold the farm and moved to a home in Caledonia. Once retired, they enjoyed many winters at their home in Mesa AZ. David was a fun-loving man, who enjoyed farming, golfing, playing cards, and driving around visiting neighbors. He loved tractor pulling and had many trophies to show for his winning efforts. He also thoroughly enjoyed razzing all of his kids’ friends who fondly knew him as “Big Dave”. David was a lifelong member at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church actively serving in various leadership roles. He was also a member of the Eitzen Lions Club for many years. David was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Diane Womack and Linda Oitzman, and brothers-in-law Paul Womack, Robert Aske and Norman Braun. He is survived by his wife, Hilda of 56 years, 5 children: Susan (Brian) Waite, Holmen WI; Joan (Patrick) Broers, Rochester MN; Karla (Patrick) McCabe, Caledonia; Keith (Michelle) Oitzman, Caledonia; and Tammy (Dean) Twite, Houston, MN; grandchildren April (Malcolm) Parker, sons Tertius and Isaiah; Whitney (Nolan) Schmidt, children Ezri and Cerek; Brennen Waite; Jordan (Sara) and Ryan Broers, Kristy and Sydney McCabe; Landon, Cole, and Adam Oitzman; and Kyle, Paige, and Alayna Twite. He is further survived by his sisters, Lila Aske and Judy (Jerry) Rusert; brothers and sisters-in-law, Arnold (Ann) Braun, Elton (Sharon) Braun, Erna (Hank) Schroeder and John Braun; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 A.M, Thursday, January 24, 2019, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 650 N Kingston St, Caledonia MN. Rev. Jon Wolff will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. A visitation will be from 4 PM until 7 PM Wednesday and 10 AM until the time of service Thursday. both at the church. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Caledonia Chapel, will oversee arrangements.
