Obituary for Michael J. Havens

Michael Havens, 68, of Bangor, passed away on Friday, Feb. 15, 2019, while in hospice at the Tomah VA. He had been diagnosed with stage four cancer in 2017. He was born on May 16, 1950, in La Crosse, to James and Vivian (Berg) Havens. Mike graduated from Luther High School in Onalaska. He enlisted in the Navy and retired after 21 years. He enjoyed that his career allowed him to travel around the world. Following his military service, Mike returned to his roots in Bangor, WI. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Cubs, the Packers, and old westerns on TV. He spent his free time going l to flee markets and auctions around the area. He was preceded in death by his daughter Dawn Havens and his father James Havens. Mike is survived by the mother of his children, Norma Havens; two daughters, Lisa (Brad) Chapiewsky of Madison and Julie Dato of Madison, his mom Vivian Havens, his brothers Richard Havens of Lake Crystal, MN Dan (Sarah) Havens of La Crosse, WI and Jon Havens of Bangor, WI and nieces and nephews and their families. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Bangor. Rev. Roy Hefti will officiate. Military honors to be rendered by the Berg-Hemker-Olson American Legion Post 51 of West Salem, and the United States Navy Funeral Honor Guard. A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service, Friday, at the church. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Bangor Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
