Obituary for Elizabeth "Liz" A. Ross


Elizabeth “Liz” A. Ross of La Crosse and bloomer, died Sunday, March 3, 2019 at the Bethel Home in Viroqua, surrounded by her family. She was born Sept. 18, 1926 in Rodenas, Germany to Nis Nicolai Peterson and Marie (Eggers) Peterson. Nis migrated to America in 1928 on the Quota Plan that required him to work for a year for a sponsor, John Johnson of Hokah, MN. Once that year was complete, he moved to La Crosse and rented a home on 4 and market, where he worked for Mull Motor. On May 1, 1930 Marie and Liz were able to join Nis in America and the family moved to Chaseburg. Elizabeth married Vernon Ross on April 20, 1945 and they celebrated their 70 anniversary. Vernon and Liz farmed on Pleasant Ridge in Chaseburg for 22 years before moving to Bloomer, Wis. and then owned/operated the Birch Point Resort for 17 years and retired to La Crosse area since. Liz enjoyed playing cards, knitting and crocheting, puzzles of all sorts, and entertaining her family and friends. Elizabeth is survived by her three sons, John (Cathy) of Stoddard, Roger (Julie) of La Crosse, James (Alyce) of Champlin, Minn.; two daughters, Sara (Matthew) Green of Kansas City, Mont., and Kathy (Greg) Kuhlow of Big Lake, Minn.; daughters-in-law Paulette of Genoa, Wis. and Barbara of Bloomer, Wis.; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 70 years, Vernon Ross; daughter, Carole Fleming; sons, David and Raymond Ross; grandson Jacob Ross, and great-granddaughter Madisyn Ross. A celebration of life will be held from 1 pm until 4 pm, on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at the Stoddard American Legion. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Woodruff Chapel, La Crosse is assisting the family.
