Obituary for Dorothy M. Romskog


Dorothy M. Romskog, 95, of West Salem, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019, at Onalaska Care Center. She was born September 19, 1923, in rural Holmen, Wis., in Johnson Coulee, to Thomas and Elizabeth (Knudson) Harnisch. On November 21, 1942, she married Gladwin Romskog and they shared 71 years on their Larson Coulee family farm together. Dorothy was employed by the late Dr. Edyth Swartout as her personal care giver and also by Mulder Health Care Facility. She enjoyed gardening, baking, dancing, and helping others. Survivors include three children, Gordon (Mary), Mary Ann (Jim) Hemker, and Dave (Jolene); one grandson, Chad (Missy) Hemker; one step-granddaughter, Jessica (Mike) Gollnick; six step-great-grandchildren, Jenna and Mason Gollnick, Nicole (Chad) Jerome, Amber Zebell, Brandon (Stacy) Zebell, and Jeremy (Amy) Elam; nine step-great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a very special niece and nephew, Lois (Robert) Miller. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gladwin; two sisters, Hazel (Art) Remus and Betty (Henry) Schauf; one brother, Charles Harnisch; and many brothers and sisters-in-law. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 359 N. Leonard St., West Salem. Pastors Jonathan and Jean Schmidt will officiate. Burial will be in Neshonoc Cemetery. A visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Jostad Chapel, West Salem, is in charge of arrangements. The family would like to give a very special thank you to the Mayo Clinic Health System and Hospice Program and Onalaska Care Center for their excellent care.
