Obituary for Allen L. Leske

Allen L. Leske, 80, of La Crosse passed away Saturday, November 2, 2019, at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse, Wis. His first job was working on the family farm, which was located on Leske Road. After a certain length of time, he enlisted in the army as a Transport Specialist. It was in the army he learned mechanics and discovered his passion for fixing cars, trucks, and farm equipment. After returning to civilian life, he married the love of his life Lorraine on August 21, 1965 in Mindoro. He then drove school bus and milk truck. He also drove dump truck and plowed snow for the town of Shelby. Allen used his own equipment to plow snow for his neighbors that lived on Leske Road. For over 40 years Allen served on the Shelby Fire Department. For nearly 20 years he served as a First Responder for the town of Shelby. He worked at Allis-Chalmers in La Crosse. He also worked at Trane Company in La Crosse as a flame cutter. He retired from La Crosse Diesel Service, Inc. as a Diesel Pump Injection Specialist. He also owned his own business, Leske Repair. On the weekends he could always be found in his garage working. Sometimes turning wrenches on a friend’s vehicle, other times using his welding equipment to work on a wide variety of personal projects or helping out neighbors and friends. He also traveled to neighboring farms for tractor repairs on nights and weekends. Later he worked nights and weekends at Syl’s Tractor Repair in Coon Valley. He was a charter member of the Mormon Coulee Lions Club. For over 20 years, he taught DNR gun safety. He volunteered as a baseball coach for Shelby youth baseball. He enjoyed playing cards and he was a member of a card club for over thirty years. He enjoyed tilling gardens for family and friends and he tilled the gardens at Gundersen Senior Living. He enjoyed making plates for his wife’s rosemaling projects. He enjoyed singing in church choir. He always found time to spend with his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. He is survived by one daughter Joan Leske of La Crosse, two sons Paul Leske of La Crosse and Mark (Mary) Leske of West Salem, eight grandchildren Joshua (Melissa) Leske, Mariah Strong, Timothy Droog, Benjamin Droog, Brandon Leske, Nicholas (Heather) Leske, Nathaniel Leske, and Joshuah-Micael Leske; four great-grandchildren Codi and Tristan Strong, Westley Arihood, and Shelby Leske. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Lorraine, his parents and numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 7th, 2019, at Trinity United Church of Christ, W4888 Harvest Lane, La Crosse. A Visitation will be from 4:30 PM until 7:30 pm Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Woodruff Chapel, 4239 Mormon Coulee Road, La Crosse. Visitation will continue on Thursday, November 7 from 10:00 AM until time of services at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
