Obituary for Ronnie Lee Monroe

Ronnie Lee Monroe, 78, died peacefully Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at his home in La Crosse, Wis. On August 11, 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Ethel Sumner. Ronnie and Ethel were blessed with three children, Tamara, Russell, and Rhonda, making La Crosse their hometown. They enjoyed their time together raising their children, camping, going to Spencer Lake Bible Camp, travelling, taking a trip to Ireland, volunteering in the kitchen serving the residents at Carroll Heights Apartments, going to county fairs, attending library and other local art events, and especially attending their grandchildren's musical and sporting events. Ronnie loved spending time with his family, and friends, feeding the birds, and gardening. He was a kind, loving, quiet, hardworking man who selflessly helped others. He was a faithful member of River of Life Church since his childhood where he served many years as janitor and Sunday School Secretary. Also, he was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 139 where he recently achieved a plaque celebrating 50 years and was a member of the Coulee Region Woodturners. He had an artistic talent as a woodturner and especially as a woodcarver, carving and painting birds. He enjoyed time with friends learning woodcarving together and meeting weekly with others for coffee and donuts at a local bakery. Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Carson and Ferne Monroe. With a warm love for and happy memories with his family, he is survived by wife, Ethel Monroe; children, Tamara (Troy) Clair of Eagan, Minn., Russell (Jane) Monroe of Lee’s Summit, Mo., and Rhonda (Bradley) Brommerich of Winona, Minn.; grandchildren, Gavin and Jenna Clair, Melody, Callie, Maxwell, and Sophia Monroe, and Ashley and Brandon Brommerich; great granddaughter, Faye Denney; brother, Allan (Patricia) Monroe of Milwaukee, Wis.; cousin, Belva Slama of Prairie du Chien, Wis; and cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 9, 2020, at River of Life Church, 1214 County Road PH, Onalaska, Wis., 54650, (608)782-2780. Pastor Jacob “Jake” Wallace will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service with lunch at the church to follow. Burial will be in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park, N1137 Bloomer Mill Road, La Crosse, Wis., 54601. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ronnie’s favorite charities; River of Life Church, Convoy of Hope, Children’s Vision International, Inc., or Salvation Army.
