Obituary for Benjamin C. Deyo

Benjamin Deyo, 45, of West Salem, was taken to his heavenly home peacefully in his sleep, on May 21, 2020. “Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life.” John 6:47. Although Ben left us at a young age, we are comforted that he is in Jesus’ arms. He was born on June 22, 1974 to Steven and Mary (Schmaltz) Deyo. He attended grade school at Mt Calvary/Grace, La Crosse, and high school at La Crosse Central, graduating in 1993. Ben was joined in marriage to Melissa Kammel on June 10, 1995 and they later divorced in 2017. He acquired a Baccalaureate in Computer Science from UW-La Crosse in 1997. In 2002, Ben and Melissa welcomed fraternal twin sons, Kyle and Corey to their family. Ben cherished being a father. When the boys were age 5-7, Ben enjoyed being the “pit crew” for his boys’ go-kart racing. Later it was decided to buy a lakefront property, which brought the family many awesome memories, especially fishing and campfires. Ben loved playing tennis and golf with his boys. Most recently Ben was proud and excited sharing with his cousins his Internet I-Racing. Ben appreciated being able to send his children to Lutheran elementary and high schools. Ben was an active coach in middle school basketball. He also served on the Christ/St. John’s School board. Ben proudly watched his boys’ singing performances, sporting events and drama musicals. He was delighted when his boys made it into Sound Foundation Show Choir for their second year. Ben is survived by his sons Kyle and Corey, parents Steven and Mary, his brother Brian (Robyn) and their children Tyler and Jacee, many extended family members, and his beloved dog Maggie who was his devoted companion . Services will be Friday, May 29th at Christ Lutheran Church in West Salem. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the time of service at 11 am. We will take precautions with Covid-19 and will respect each person’s individual decision on attending in person or joining us in spirit. Memorials in Ben’s honor may be directed to either the Luther High School Music Department, Onalaska, or Christ/St. John’s Lutheran School, West Salem. The family appreciates Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Jostad Chapel, West Salem with assisting the family in our time of need.
