Obituary for Beverly Jane Batchelder


Beverly Jane Batchelder, age 93, passed away August 1, 2022, from pancreatic cancer.

Bev, “Nana” was born in West Allis, Wisconsin to the late Marie and William Beck. She attended elementary and secondary schools in West Allis. She graduated from West Allis Nathan Hale High School and Milwaukee County General Hospital as a professional registered nurse in 1950. Beverly earned a baccalaureate degree in Biology and Nursing from Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and a Master of Science degree in Health Education from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Beverly was a Nurse Educator at St. Francis Hospital and Viterbo University from 1965-1988. In 1998, she became a Charter Member in the Women’s Health and Research Initiative, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was also a member of the American Nurses Association, American Public Health Association, and a member of the Hope Lutheran ELCA Church.

Beverly will be remembered for her devotion to family, friends, nursing and the church. As Bob remarked: “Jesus will be receiving a tireless worker.”

She was survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Robert Wesley Batchelder (since deceased), four grandchildren, Zan (Savannah), Aubry (Luis), Bret (Haley) and Austin as well as five great-grandchildren. Son, Curt Lane Batchelder also passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2019; son Craig Robert Batchelder resides in Wilmington, NC.

A Celebration of Life for both Robert and Beverly will be held at the University of La Crosse, Cleary Gathering Place on September 9, 2023 at 10:00AM. The family welcomes all to a Reception and Brunch in the Cleary Center, immediately following the service.

The Batchelder's are entombed at the Garden of Peace Mausoleum, La Crosse, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Robert W. and Beverly J. Batchelder Scholarship for the College of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, University of La Crosse, Wisconsin, 615 East Avenue North, PO Box 1148, La Crosse, Wisconsin 54602-1148.
