Obituary for Bill “Barrell” Schroeder


William Bruce Schroeder (Barrell to his friends), 72, of Bangor, WI, peacefully passed away on October 4th surrounded by loved ones, following a long-term illness.

Bill was born on November 1st, 1950, to Ardelle and Floyd Schroeder in LaCrosse, WI. After Bill graduated from BangorHigh school in 1968, he spent the balance of his active life working in the Bangor community.

Bill worked at the Log Cabin and, through various points of his life, was active with many local, regional and national associations, especially those promoting field and stream conservation. Bill retired in 2016 after 40 years. While retired, Bill had time to continue working with both the Bangor School District and volunteering in various capacities with the Bangor Athletic Department. He cared deeply for the local programs, students and athletes within the community. The Bill & Mary Schroeder Scholarship will continue in perpetuity, available to Bangor High School students entering the Education Profession.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Ardelle (Jandt) & Floyd.

He is survived by his sister, Jane Korn (spouse Phillip). He is also survived by his spouse, Mary; their two children, Jodi Harding (spouse Bill) and Chris Squire (spouse Erica); grandchildren, Lily, Connor, Ria, Alex, Adeline, and Sophia.

Bill will be greatly missed by his extended family, friends, and many associates.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, October 12, 2023; at St. Teresa of Kolkata Parish (formerly, St. Leo the Great) in West Salem. Msgr. Jeffrey Burrill and Deacon Bob Zietlow will celebrate the Mass.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m., until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, and from 9:00 a.m., until the time of Mass, Thursday, both at church.
